Title: George Boswell
Post by: kenreb on Sunday 04 October 09 12:33 BST (UK)
I am searching for a George Boswell born in Melbourne Australia in 1851.  His parents were George Boswell and Lousia Macklin.  he married Sarah Arnold in Victoria in 1873 and then vanishes.  I know some of his mothers family did moved to New Zealand.  I found a George Boswell's death registered in NZ in 1903 aged 53.  The date and age seem to match but the on line search for NZ death registrations only gives name, year and age.  Can anyone in NZ shed more light.  Would be happt to sent to NZ for the death certificate if I was sure it was the man I am looking for.  Many tnanks.  Ken

Hi

I'm thinking  there's a good chance the George BOSWELL named here, is he (ie: the man who died 1903):
In this Newspaper article of 1901, a George BOSWELL and wife Annie, are sadly burying their 17 year old daughter Ada Lucy. Their residence is Umutaoroa which is in Dannevirke.

Mrs Annie  BOSWELL, is then is mentioned on her own   in "Papers Past" database:

1) Annie BOSWELL of Umutaoroa, is having a Sale to clear Dairy Stock from her land - Jan 1904.

2) Mrs Annie BOSWELL of Tennyson Street, 1907, dealing with a Council matter re compensation to herself.

In both these cases, one imagines her husband is deceased between 1901 and 1904, otherwise he's be the one dealing with such matters.

The Cemeteries that would cover Dannevirke area are under the Tararua District Council:
http://www.tararuadc.govt.nz/asp/cemeteries_search.asp?menu=ce

Ada Lucy BOSWELL age 17, died 2 Oct 1901 is buried in the Settlers Dannevirke Cemetery
Main Section, Block D, Plot 21

Annie BOSWELL age 74, Widow of Tennyson St, Dannevirke, died 24 Oct 1926, buried 25 Oct 1926.
Mangatera Cemetery Dannevirke. She is interred with an Alexander and Rose SCOTT.
Main Section, Block P, Plot 37

Regardless of whether he is your George, I can't see a burial for Annie's George in Tararua.
Nor did I see him in Palmerston North or Wellington.  cemetery listings.

Cheers

Hi Ambly - thanks for that - this guy is real mystery - others have tried to find him and failed.  I am waiting for his wife marriage certificate to come for her 2nd marriage (1892) - see what she put her status as - if she put it as widow at least I know George died before 1892.  Ken

Hi Ken

Another "George BOSWELL" death from the NZ index, for consideration ?

1939 - BOSWELL - George - 90 years (bc 1849)

* Do you know where in NZ, the family of George's mother, settled ?

[It may assist us in finding a burial location for this "1939" George.]    ADDED:  Burial place now found :

Buried at Kawakawa Cemetery

Public Lawn - Block  3A - Plot 17
[Note 1.  Cracked slab and shared headstone :
Note 2.   Not marked (infant) ]

Cemetery record shows age as being "91 years" which differs from the 90 years recorded on NZ Death index.

Do you know if your BOSWELL'S came from Worcestershire or Warwickshire in England at all?
my husband's family are Boswell's from there, wondered if we might be connected?
