Thanks for that Alan - though I think you'd already given me the christening of Ann Mills.

I've still not had any luck with a marriage of George to Emily Withers but have found possibly their first child on freebmd - Walter birth registered 1st Q of 1875 in Reading and death recorded 2nd q 1879 aged 4.

If I could find a christening of Walter it might point to where they married.

I will have to apply for the birth certificate for their address in 1875.  George was in Rupert Street, Reading in 1871 and Emily at Marcham Park, Marcham, Berkshire.  She would only have been 20 when Walter was born.  That narrows the marriage between 1871 and 1875.

Hi Ken,

Here are the baptisms of Barwicks I could find in the Grove records;
26-12-1841 Sarah Barwick d/o George & Ann, otp, labr, (born 25-9-1841)
22-3-1846   Joseph     "      s/o     "           "      "     "        "    23-2-1846
3-9-1848     Walter      "        "      "           "      "     "        "    21-7-1848
7-4-1850     Charlotte  "      d/o     "           "      "     "        "    8-1-1850
7-11-1852   Emily        "        "      "           "     "      "        "   30-8-1852
5-8-1855     Jane          "        "      "          "      "     "        "   17-5-1855
16-10-1859  Julia         "        "      "           "     "      "        "   28-8-1859

As you can see there is a gap between 1841 & 1846 when George could have been baptised. You could contact the Oxford FHS to see if his entry has been missed from the transcripts. Also the records I have for Marcham only go up to 1804 , so if you do contact the Ox. FHS,  they may be able to to look and see if the marriage of George & Emily took place there.

We are planning a visit to the Berkshire Record Office this Autumn so will check the Grove church registers there.
Thanks again.
