Looking for parents of Mary Davies, wife of William George Calthorpe

I am looking for information on the mother of my great-grandfather, William Calthorpe, born 3rd October 1883 at Bolton, Lancs.

His father was William George Calthorpe, whose family I have traced back to the 1700s. However, William George's wife, Mary Davies, I have little information about.

Here's what I know:

- Mary Davies married William George Calthorpe on 19th March, 1882, at Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Little Bolton.

- Evidence I have suggests Mary Davies *may* have been born at Tyldesley in November 1858.

If anyone can help me find information on Mary Davies and her parents names/surnames it would be greatly appreciated.

welcome to rootschat.......    you need to reply twice more to enable personal messaging.....   because some kind soul may find personal information ie 1911 census which we cannot post on open boards.........   not that I found it as I used Lancs OPC to extract information for you.


circa 1882 the family was at 6 Bold Street Bolton,

next they were at 56 Ainscough St Little Bolton

next they at 9 Bk Newport St Bolton

then the family were at No 5 The Walk Atherton Lancs

then they appear in the Union Workhouse Howe Bridge Atherton


Maybe someone can  find a census for the period 1891 then 1901 around those addresses.......   


then at least you may have a firm indicator of where she said she was born and her age.... I would have assumed the marriage certificate would have had the details on it of her father , instead of using the Lancs OPC which may not have had the same details as the certificate

By 1891 I think that sons William and Charles (1887 Bolton)   were boarding at Wood Enderby, Lincolnshire with the Brader family with no sign of Mary.  RG12 Piece 2599 Folio 104 Page    5

Their youngest son Thomas Herbert (b 1887) appears to died in Lincolnshire in 1890. and there is a William Calthorpe b 1861 Lincolnshire in 1891 boarding in  Bolton Road, Newtown, Lancashire.  He is listed as single and an ostler and traveler.  But this sadly doesn't help much with Mary

The greatest challenge seems to be the fact the church registers didn't take into account the women's maiden names.
