I wonder if there are others between Emma and Bessie who arent at home in 1901

Perhaps it has something to do with them moving from Mendham to Weybread in the intervening years?

As William was born in Eye, like the youngest Cockle, I would suggest he was the son of Anna.

I ruled that out because the 1911 census shows Sidney Cockle as "son" of the Cockle group rather than grandson /granddaughter which is how the two Loane babies are described.

But William's father may not have been Ernest Cockle hence not being included in that grouping.   

None of us here can second-guess this.   The only way to be sure is to buy the certificates.

Hello, I am researching the names on our local war memorial and the two Loane brothers (James Arthur & William George) are included. William died in one of the worst massacres in WW2. I have a tree that I think answers your questions. I will share the GEDCOM with you if you can share any certificates you have received. I just cant buy all the certificates I need for all the men on the memorials ;-) GEDCOM should be attached to this post.

Thank you for your message and the Gedcom file.

I am descended from one of the branches of the Fressingfield Vincent's tree. James and William's mother was Eliza Vincent but I have yet to definitively connect her father Samuel to my branch although it is reasonable to suppose some common ancestry in the 17th or 18th century. I haven't purchased any of the certificates for the Loane family - sorry!

I've compared your tree with mine and I have the following additional information that I hope you find of some use:

James Arthur Loane

1891 census Mendham District 9/RG12/1460/Page 13
Family living in Metfield Road, Mendham.

1901 census in Weybread District 8/RG13/1766/Page20
Family living in "Brick Kiln", Weybread. (Bessie was born in Webread c1899 so the family moved back before then).

1911 Census Military/Ceylon and India/Page 10
James is a private in the 2nd Norfolks, stationed at Belgaum, Karnataka, India.

In terms of his WW1 experience, there is a full account of 15 Brigade's experiences by its commander Brig Gen Count Cleichen at http://www.gutenberg.org/files/22074/22074-h/22074-h.htm

In terms of William George, other than his appearance on the 1911 census, I have no other information to aid you.

Malcolm, that's very kind of you. I think James Arthur was a preacher so am following up his Methodist background when he was in Withersdale.
