Hi Stonemason,

I have found a family in Llansanffraid, Glan Conway, which is about 3 miles from Conway, Caernarvonshire. There is a Baptism for David Roberts, parents William & Alice Roberts on  the 22nd October 1665 at Llansanffraid, Glan Conway. I have also found a Baptism for Alicia Roberts who's father is David Roberts on the 22 May 1706 at Llansanffraid, Glan Conway.
She could be your David's daughter, named after her Grandmother. If this is the family you are looking for perhaps you need to search the Denbighshire registers as that is the County for Llansanffraid, Glan Conway.

Kind Regards,

Ellenmai

Hi lynne1897 :)

Here is the Genuki link to Llansanffraid Glan Conwy

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/DEN/LlansanffraidGlanConwy/index.html

It appears the baptism records began in 1660, consistent with most of England & Wales.

Hope this helps
Heather

Hi

If you are looking for people in the Conwy (Conway) parish records it may be worth having a look at Gyffin parish records. Gyffin is the parish to the south of Conwy and comes almost up to the town walls of Conwy, it also covers the mountain area south west of Conwy between Conwy and Dwygyfylchi.

I know for my own family research that people in the "Conwy" area were baptised in Conwy, Gyffin or even in Dwygyfylchi. All three of these parishes came under the old Caernarvonshire as opposed to Llansanffraid-Glan Conwy which came under Denbighshire.

I am guessing you will be aware that the name Conwy is fairly new as the official name of the parish/town. Traditionally the parish/town was spelt Conway, a subtle difference I know but it can affect some searches.

Griffith(s) - Anglesey: Pentraeth, Llanddona.

Hughes - Anglesey: Holyhead, Llangefni, Pentraeth.
Caernarvonshire: Gyffin, Dwygyfylchi, Penmaenmawr.

Jones - Anglesey: Llangefni
Denbighshire: Betws yn Rhos, Llanfairtalhaiarn

Owen/Owens - Anglesey: Llanbadrig.
Caernarvonshire: Bangor, Penrhosgarnedd.
Denbighshire: Cerrigydrudion.

Roberts - Caernarvonshire: Dwygyfylchi, Penmaenmawr, Llysfaen.

hi Heather and Gog,
Thankyou for the info, I managed to get to 1660 when I was on findmypast but couldn't get any further, I know from research that my male line came under Conway parish records and the female line and children came under gyffin parish records, but I cant read latin and the Conway parish records are in latin the early records, that's why I was hoping someone could find my William Roberts and his wife Alice, the only children I can find for them is John born 1663 and a david born 1665, under glan Conway.
thankyou for the info and your time I will look at that site.
regards
lynne
