The only marriage on the Australian Marriage Index (which is not as reliable as the Digger index) for John Gray McPHERSON marrying Fanny NICHOLSON, is in Victoria, 1897 #3259.  This registration number is different from the one you have.

The marriage from the other index Judith has mentioned above shows this information:

MCPHERSON Jno Gray (born Geelong) m. NICHOLSON Fanny (born Ballarat) 1897 #3259

Hi

I suspect that the registration number for the 1897 marriage in the original post (5799) is a typo as it is the same number as the 1884 death for Fanny Nicholson

The correct registration number for the NICHOLSON and MCPHERSON marriage is 3259.
Sorry, already posted on Page 1.

Thanks, Merlin for adding the Victorian Index info (I'm not very trustful of the Australian Indexes  :D) and interesting to note that they are in SA in 1909.  I can't see a death for John Gray McPHERSON.  I see the last electoral roll entry at 38 Bluff Rd, Sandringham Victoria for him is in 1931, although Fanny is still at the same address till at least 1942.

Hello Judith Merlin Rhonda Andycan & Dee.
Thank you very much for all that effort.
I think i'll have to leave it there.
My genealogy searches will end Dec 31. when my Ancestry account stops.  I am eager to get into sorting and sifting with all the info and primary source documents.
Again,
many thanks for all that.

Thank you for your kind words jk22; Rootschat is a great team effort - someone finds something which someone else builds on, and so it goes.  A variety of bits of information, contributed by many of us, all add to the picture.

Just a last find this morning - PROV has a will listed for
John G McPHERSON, builder, of Black Rock, died 13 April, 1934.  Unfortunately the actual will is not on-line.

http://prov.vic.gov.au/index_search?searchid=54

I can't see a death or funeral notice on TROVE for him.
