Patrick McEvoy
« on: Thursday 04 July 13 05:53 BST (UK) »
I am hoping to find ancestors of Patrick McEvoy, born abt 1816 in Queens County who married Frances Redding, born abt 1829 also in Queens County.
One of their sons Joseph McEvoy, born 1869, emigrated to Australia.
Any information on this family would be appreciated.

The average starting date for rural RC records would be about 1830, so your dates are probably a little too early for any church record of your Patrick. For searches before the start of civil records the first clues you usually require is a detailed location - i.e. the name of the town, townland or parish your family lived, and also the denomination, so you can start by checking if records are available.

Have you located the sons birth record ?
His place of birth might at least give you a starting point in Ireland...
Remember to check the Resource boards :  Ireland, Dublin, Antrim & Cork (and stickies at the top of other county sub-forums)

1901 census of knockseara ballybrophy queens co shows a frances mcevoy widow farmer age 69 with sons john 40 single william 36 single dtr lizzie single. 1911 census for the same address shows her son william married 8 years with wife and children,so frances most likely deceased. only problem with these they are of the catholic religion. when patrick and frances married in 1850 it was a civil marriage so probably protestant religion or perhaps mixed.

Or it could have been a Registry Office marriage.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
