HUM

OK I didn't realise that David was a military man which means that his children could have been born / baptised anywhere.

What did his daughter name her daughters, in order, to see if we can get any leads for her mother that way (ie naming patterns)

I don't have a subscription to get into this but looks interesting ~ it just shows me an excerpt of the full article!

 Sunday's Post.
—On Sunday evening last, Mr. David Fleming, Monasterevin, sent man in his employ, named Browne, letter which he had received by post, to the house his steward, between Portarlington and Monastereven, to be forwarded to a gentleman

Yes I did, thank you! I think I put lea and kilanure in the wrong order.

I'll hop back into my shoebox on Ancestry and check those girls names.

I have just recently been trying the same strategy looking for a mother for the bridegroom too.  So I have done quite a few searches using the girls names. Have gathered quite a few of them on census, and a few births, so I will check them to see that I give you the right ones.

Thanks, great
Jeanne

Added -  just saw your other post .  Is that on an ancestry or FindMyPast subscription maybe, because I currently have both?

Hi There

I just have findmypast.ie which will only let me into Irish papers and that article is showing up under British newspapers, so if you have a worldwide subscription / or the British sub, you should be able to get into it !

Just so that you are aware ~

Portarlington is a tricky area as it is right on the border of 3 counties, Laois, Offaly & Kildare.

There was also a family of David Flemings in Monasterevin !

I am attaching a map just incase there are any leads that way !

Ok. I have a Clara Phoebe Mathews born 1851 and Mary Grace Mathews born 1867.

I think Phoebe comes from the Mathews side, as John Gibbons Mathews has a sister named Phoebe. He also has a sister Sarah, so I'm looking at that as a possibility for his mother!

Clara is one that hasn't popped up yet, so maybe this one might be the best candidate so far for Mary Jane's mother.

Grace is a name that carries into the next few generations of Mathews,  and this is the earliest one so far.

Thanks so much again.  I'm signing out for tonight, my brain is fried, and time I got some sleep.

Jeanne.  :)
