A big thank you MargP and Heywood  :)
Think you both have solved that problem so he was in the army under the name Thorley.
George has so far confused me with his surname changing, so after 1905 he stayed Heywood
I am now beginning to wonder who his dad is  :-\  is it Thomas Heywood as stated on his marriage certs or Thomas Thorley   ???
But to make it more confusing on his birth cert he has no fathers name.

Hi Lanei

In the British Postal App Books

1912, George is registered twice under both names of Thorley and Heywood
He was still using both names in 1912

It looks highly likely that Thomas Thorley would be the father but as Harriet was officially Mrs Heywood, she may not have included his name. However, we will never know, I suppose!

Perhaps they had to wait to marry until either Mr Heywood or Mrs Thorley (if there was one) died.

Thomas Thorley was married before as on Harriet and Thomas marriage cert he was a widower and what I don't get Harriet was down as a spinster. and was using her maiden name of Booth.

On both of George's marriage certs his father was Thomas Heywood a salt boiler.
where as Thomas Thorley was a shoemaker.

I have come across this one and was thinking it was him,
It's really hard when you know nothing about them.

He certainly looks good.

However, as he is not named on the birth certificate and not living with Harriet, it looks likely that he is not George's father.
It may well be that he is named as father because George wanted to be true to his birth name.
It's seems to be just one of those things  - nothing can be proved. :-\
