George Henry KIRKPATRICK - Completed
« on: Wednesday 13 April 11 22:53 BST (UK) »
Hi,
This is my 2nd go on Rootschat at finding G.Grandfather George Henry Kirkpatrick who decamped to South Africa in a huff in the 1840s. I've tried under the South Africa section but no success so far.
George apparently left Scotland after a quarrel with his family about changing his surname.  I have records from South Africa proving his residence and family there, but I can't find any record of his existance either in S.A. or Scotland before 1850. He died in Kimberley, S.A. in 1872, age given as about 51, born in Scotland, which makes his birth abt 1821.  According to family info, he was born in Dumfriesshire, and said he lived at Knockill when young.  His wife was called Jessie, but no idea whether she was from S.A. or Scotland. I've scoured the Kirkpatrick Genealogies, but no help there either. Can anyone help?

26 Sep 2011 - Found him, he was the son of a Gunner in the Royal Artillery and was  born in Montreal, Canada, 1824
