greatgrand father
« on: Monday 08 September 14 20:58 BST (UK) »
My great grandfather was married in the /church of All Souls in Hackney on March 4, 1894. He married Jessie Price.  His Parents names were James and Ann Browne.  Jessie's parents were Peter and Mary Price.  I'am trying to trace William's family before his marriage to Jessie.  I can't find information pertaining to the family before their marriage.  Both James and his brother Charles as well as William were tailors. Other than that I know very little. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you found him in censuses after his marriage to find when and where he was born?
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

census information is Crown Copyright from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

William is a 2 week old un-named infant on 1871 census in Hackney.

I have found a James and Ann in the 1881 census.  But I'm not sure it is my James.  It does state he was a tailor and they lived in Hackney, on Flourfield rd.  On Williams marriage cert it says they lived on 38 Pedro st.  I don't know how far apart those are.  Is it possible this is  the same family. There is a Charles listed as a sibling so it could be.

I looked at the 1871 census and the wife's name is Sara.  His mother was Anne.

1871
James Browne  42
Ann Browne  37
Mary Ann Browne  15
Amelia Browne  16
Charles Browne  11
Emily Browne  5
Infant  2 Weeks -  (William)
  RG10; Piece: 321; Folio: 24; Page: 42

On the marriage register the same address is given for the bride and groom.

In 1891, the brides family are living at 4 college Street, so neither of them in the 1891 census are shown at the address given in register in 1894

I believe I have found them in the 1871 census.  It does state James as being a tailor and they  and they were living on Florefield rd. This is in all likelihood his family.
