Anderson / Ford Edrom marriage details
« on: Monday 15 July 13 12:56 BST (UK) »
Hi all, i have previously posted a similar request a few years ago but was still stuck and was hoping anyone would be able to provide fresh information or direct me.

I am looking for marriage details on James Anderson and Elizabeth Ford

I have dates of birth that i can't confirm as correct.

James born 1773?
Elizabeth born 1777?

Both edrom as far as i can find out..can anyone confirm please?

They had the following children.

Isabel 19 march 1798 (Middlestotes)

John 2 Aug 1800 (Middlestotes)

Christian 22 sep 1802 (Reedyloch)

George 16 dec 1805 (Blackadder town)   My Family Line...

Mary 28 oct 1808 (Blackadder town)

Margaret 24 jan 1811 (Blackadder town)

Elizabeth 21 may 1814 (Sheriffhall)

All these say "before the burgher congregation dunse"

I assume they also got married in the same place?

Also i have information on George (went to selkirk, married and then moved to Australia)
and Margaret (moved to Australia also)

But cannot seem to find information on the other members of the family.

Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Given the names of the first children, this could be a possible for James:

Duns/Dunse and Edrom are adjacent parishes.

Nothing showing for Elizabeth or a marriage. However, it's not unusual to not find a marriage as the records could be missing or the marriage was not performed by a C of Scotland minister.

Hi Gadget, thanks for that information.

I was trying to follow the scottish naming tradition as well but from what i have gone by the next generation seems to have altered the way they named their children or not followed it. So i was a bit wary to follow it 100% but just as a guide.

For example.

in my line

James and Elizabeths 2nd born son (George) and his wife Sarah emond had the following children.

Margaret (1st daughter)
Elizabeth
Robert   (1st son)
Ann
John
Alexander
Mary
David
Walter
Jane
Henry Little John

All of these children were born in selkirk Scotland
All came out to Australia in the 1850s except Alexander whom i can't find any record.

1st son named after father's father
2nd son named after mother's father
3rd son named after father
1st daughter named after mother's mother
2nd daughter named after father's mother
3rd daughter named after mother

In my families case they took the 1st born son and daughter from the mother Sarah Emonds side.

So if the 2nd son instead of being the mother's father (Sarah) i take John to be the name of the fathers father? but it's james??

On the mothers side i don't see any "Johns" for a few generations back (if this makes sense?)

The 3rd son (Alexander) should be named after the father? (George) Again i can't see where Alexanders name came from.

But now we have the 2nd Daughter (Elizabeth) who is in fact named after Georges mother Elizabeth Ford.

they didn't make it easy on me  :P

So if i go of this rule...

Isabel 19 march 1798 (Middlestotes) 1st daughter named after mother's mother

John 2 Aug 1800 (Middlestotes)    1st son named after father's father

Christian 22 Sept 1802 (Reedyloch) 2nd daughter named after father's mother

George 16 DEC 1805 (Blackadder town)   My Family Line... 2ND son named after mother's father

Mary 28 Oct 1808 (Blackadder town) 3rd daughter named after mother

Margaret 24 Jan 1811 (Blackadder town) ??

Elizabeth 21 may 1814 (Sheriffhall) ??

Elizabeth Fords mother should be Isabel??

James Father should be the John you have found (hopefully )  ;D

John's wife should be Christian?

and Isabel's husband George Ford?

So George and Isabel Ford may be parents of Elizabeth Ford

and John and Christian Anderson may be parents of James Anderson?

Using those presumptions i have been searching for a few years to no avail :(

In the 1841 census i found a George Ford in    Whitsome Berwickshire that was 75 with a family but not a wife? next nearest female was 50 this may be him?

I also found a John Anderson in Jedburgh Roxburghshire aged 75 again no wife but with family.

As for religion i think the family that came to Australia stated that they were Presbyterian? so i am not sure if the previous generations were also..

One other thing to note was that George met his Wife Sarah in Selkirk and married 23/7/1830.

So between the birth of Elizabeth Anderson in 1814 at Sheriff hall and George Marrying Sarah in 1830 i am not sure of their location, and if George was the only one to move to Selkirk or his whole family did??

Thanks again, if anyone has any ideas?

I have found a record that hopefully may be "my" james..

FORMERLY MOUNT PLEASANT, AFTERWARDS MIDDLESTOTS, D. 01/03/1835

the reason why i think it may be my james is that middlestot/es was where some of his children were born...(too much to hope??) plus mount pleasant is close to all.

i don't have a age when he died or date of birth to confirm though or what cemetary he would have been buried in?
