Wistow Baptisms
« on: Monday 25 August 14 19:20 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

I have hit a brick wall,  I'm helping a friend with his Levitt side of his Family and can't find any record for the birth/baptsim for David Levitt, born 1803 Wistow, Yorkshire.  David married Hannah Nelson 1824 in Wistow and he died 1865 in Selby. The baptism is the only record we don't have, but until we can find it we can't find the parents for David or know who his siblings were.

Thanks

Julie

Hi,
I am the great great grand daughter of David and Hannah Levitt of Wistow and I too are drawing a blank as I cannot get any further back in my search of the Levitt family.
Have you any updates please.

Hi Castiger and Julie

Wistow is in the West Riding. It is not far from Selby. But David Levitt states in 1861 he was born in Osgodby. There is more than one Osgodby. One is in Hemingborough Parish which is close to Selby but in the East Riding.

The IGI does not have a baptism for David in Hemingborough but I suggest that you look at the original parish records for Hemingborough either at the Archives or a film at your nearest LDS Family History Centre to check if David's baptism is there.
It is not unheard of that the compilers of the IGI and other indexes missed a few entries. They missed my 3X Great Granny in Snaith. :-((  The IGI ain't perfect.
Good Luck

1851, states David born in Pontefract and Hannah in Osgodby.  In 1861 David b Osgodby, Hannah b Boston! In 1871 Hannah is given as born in Osgodby.

Osgodby baptisms would be at Barlby.  So, think Hannah could have been born in Osgodby and possibly David in Pontefract?

Maybe they just don't want to be found. I have one case where the guy says a different place in every census he is in ending up with "Born at Sea" in 1901!
