Anyone know where Dunstable Row was in Bradwell a century ago?
« on: Tuesday 23 September 14 21:42 BST (UK) »
1911 Census entry for the MEAD family - George 59 a builders carpenter born Flore, Northants and wife Ann 57 born Loughton, Bucks along with sons Fred Harry 25 and Harry 21 both born Bradwell, Bucks.

The postal address is shown as 6 Dunstable Row, Bradwell, Bucks but I can't work out whether that was in the village - Old Bradwell - or the railway town New Bradwell. Harry's occupation suggests he may work in the Railway Works at nearby Wolverton.

Fred Harry died in France in 1918.

http://buckinghamshireremembers.org.uk/php_scripts/bksidget.php?id=7292 and http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Buckinghamshire/Bradwell.html suggest he came from Old Bradwell.

Does anyone know where Dunstable Row was please?

Thanks

1901 census shows them at Dunstable Cottages, Old Bradwell

1891 they are at High Street, Bradwell - which suggest they are in New Bradwell at that time.

Ann's place of birth changes from Dunstable to Loughton over the censuses.

How local are you to Milton Keynes? Your best option would be the central library. Before the railway, Bradwell, Wolverton and Stantonbury where small villages, mainly farming. Dunstable Row would have been in the original Bradwell village which is near to the New Bradwell development.

Thanks, I was hoping someone with more knowledge of the old village than I (I live locally) might have heard of this address and could place it. I haven't found it on any maps to date but know that some of the village thoroughfares do appear to have changed their names over time.
