Thomas Hannan b1853 - Buninadon?
« on: Tuesday 04 March 14 12:13 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for more info regarding Thomas Hannan, born c 1853 in Sligo.

On the census the exact place is hard to decipher, but looks like Buninadon?

He moved to Gotham in Nottinghamshire and married a Jane Marshall in 1889, his profession is described as a marble polisher.

This is a part of my husband's grandmother's tree and she is very interested to find out more about the Hannan's and where they are from in Ireland.

Can anyone help?

There is a placename "Bunnanaddan" that is a possibility here:

http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,560450,811689,6,7

In terms of its "administrative" location, it sits in the townland of Ballynaraw South in the Civil Parish of Cloonoghil.  The Barony is Corran and the Poor Law Union is Tobercurry.

Can't see any Hannon's at that location in Griffiths Valuation though.

Sorry can't help with the place name

Do you have Thomas' marriage certificate? Who was is father? Perhaps try looking for his
baptism

There’s a  Thomas Hannon age 18 Ireland occ Marble Polisher also  a
John Hannon age 19 Ireland occ Marble Mason

Could John be his brother? If it is, you could try later censuses to see what his pob is given as

I don’t know if this person may have a connection to your Hannan family,
posting because of his name & occupation

Thanks Ladyhawk,

The Thomas in London with his brother John is the right one. I also found the same John in the later census and thought with the occupation it must be the same one.
I can't find anything else at the moment though that says anything but Ireland for their place of birthm
I think I will have to order the marriage cert and hope it helps :)

Just checking if you've seen this posting, it's old but at least lets you know that someone else thinks that there were Hannons from Bunnanadden:
