Henry Powning Stark

Interested to know when Henry Powning Stark arrived in New Zealand from Australia. He was born 8 October 1826 in Devon, England. Arrived in Melbourne aged 24 aboard the 'Sirocco'. Married Sarah Cooper 1854? (Pioneer Index Victoria Reg 774). 3 May 1861 New Zealand Gazette lists him as member for Napier in the House of Representatives. Interested to know what happened to wife Sarah as he remarried Emma Lindsay 1 March 1867 and when and how he arrived in New Zealand. thanks

Just having a brief look, I found a few snippets about Henry around the time of his death (5 July 1870).   There may well have been a full obituary published for him.
[Search on his full name / "H.P. STARK" / "stark" etc. ]

Henry P. STARK - died 5 July 1870 at Shortland (Thames, NZ) aged 43 years

- place of death, Imperial Hotel, Pollen Street, Thames

- had been a resident of the province [[I suspect this means the wider-Auckland province ? ]]
for about 14 years [[so arrival c. 1856 ]] - had previously carried on business in Auckland as a stock and sharebroker, land agent and auctioneer.

- left behind a wife and family, quite unprovided for.

Mmm ... can see Henry's burial at the Shortland Cemetery, Thames ... the record shows capacity of plot "2"  and "used" ?? ... but there is no other STARK burial noted for that cemetery.

Will explore further.

Mmm ... something a wee bit odd with dates ? (or is it just me?    )

The Henry STARK aged 24 who arrived in Melbourne per "Sirocco" in August 1858 can't (I don't think), be the same man as Henry Powning STARK. ?
[1858 less 24 years = 1834 (approx. birth year) so this 1858 Henry STARK, is 8 years younger.]

Henry Powning STARK is also listed as having been in Auckland in 1858 (in relation to the subdividing of allotments in the area around Blockhouse Bay /or Titirangi. )
