(I hope this doesn't become 'addictive'!!)

Regards,

Colin

No, its not addictive at least no more than the air we breathe, and I can do without that for at least a minute.

Hello again!

Just a quick question.

During my continuing research, many of my father's family were biorn or died in Canterbury, Kent, England. In his father's brother's data, instead of the usual 'Canterbury' I find against Born and Died, the word "cantab" instead.

As I do not think that this refers to either a degree received from Cambidge University, or that he was a resident of Cambridge, I am presuming that it is a 'shortening' of the name Canterbury.

If anyone has any views on this, I would be grateful for an explanation.

Thanks for everyone's asistance, my research is slowly ploughing ahead! I have discovered many brothers and sisters plus details of his father's and mother's family.

Regards,

Colin

As a local to Canterbury, I would never use Cantab. As you say it usually refers to Cambridge. I would use Cant. or C'bury.

I'm a Man of Kent too and I've never come across Cantab as an abbreviation for Canterbury. Perhaps it was just his personal shorthand.

Thank you, KGarrad, for your reply,

I had taken that into consideration as I mentioned in my original question, and it is not a likely possibliity.

Regards
