Andrews Family Pershore Worcestershire
« on: Sunday 16 June 13 12:19 BST (UK) »
Good morning.

I am brand new to your forum (I registered today) on the advice of an 'old hand' at tracing family trees.  Although a member of Ancestry, I am not a member (on cost grounds) of any other genealogy site and I am definitely still trying to find my feet.

Having been researching of my family for less than a year I have hit a bit of a brick wall.  The family I have is as follows:

Samuel Andrews   Dob             07 Jul 1780 at Pershore, Worcestershire
Christening    12 Aug 1780 at Holy Cross, Pershore, Worcestershire

Samuel's wife's name was Ann but I have no maiden name, Dob, marriage date or place.

I know they had five children, James (b 1799), Edmund (b 1800), Samuel (b 1805), Catura (b 1806) and Mary (b 1811). Given the spacing there may have been others and I am uncertain of the spelling of 'Catura' it may be Keturah or similar.

Samuel's father was James Andrews and mother Sarah; again no other details of any sort.

If anyone can provide any details or help for those above I should be most grateful.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Samuel & Sarah seem to have had 11 children from 1771-96 all Pershore.
I can't find a marriage either.
Your Samuel died in 1818 aged 38 & assuming Anne didn't remarry she may have died in 1836 aged 51.
Father James may have died 1822 aged 74 & Sarah in 1836 aged 86.
I think it's a trip to Worcs. RO.

Hi,

This looks an interesting site and offers   - Search Services (Fee paying). The cost seems relatively low at £4-00  for up to three entries from the Index. Additional entries 25p each.

Perhaps you might benefit more if a Moderator moved the thread to Worcester Look Up Request. Some kind person may pick up on your request and look at the parish registers for you.

Many thanks for your most helpful replies.

diddymiller,

I have been looking for a link dedicated to Worcestershire archives and never found one - having said that, when I needed similar information on another town I had to be pointed in the right direction then as well!!  Is there a search method that others use or is it simply a lot of experience and 'tribal art'?  If it's the former I can learn quickly, the latter will take much longer!!

jim1,

Where did you find the data on Samuel and Sarah?  Was it the archive given by diddymiller, that suggested by Sandra or another source?  It looks most helpful and if available to me (rather than a 200+ mile trip to Worcester) would be of huge help.  I may even find a maiden name for Ann!!

Sandra,

Your link also looks most helpful and, as you say, far cheaper than many other resources.

Once again many thanks to you all.  The links and information will keep me busy for a while I think and, hopefully, allow me to progress a little more.    :)

The info. for the children came from IGI jus by putting in the surname in the search box with parents Samuel & Sarah.

The burial info. came from the National Burials Index which I have on disc.

Many thanks Jim, I now have another route - when I know how to use it properly - to find people and many thanks for looking up the burial.

Jim1

I have been trying to use the IGI records to replicate your results exactly and failed to date.  I have just noticed you used the names "Samuel & Sarah" when the couple were Samuel & Ann.  Did you actually use the correct names to get your results or am I still doing it all wrong?
