Seeking date of death and burial place of Joseph Hamilton. He farmed at Chapel Farm Kirkpatrick Juxta and married Agnes Beattie on 20/1/ 1835. Does not appear on 1841 census although wife and son James Hamilton ( my great grandfather) do. also a Jean? Hamilton aged 10? on same census?

Hi,

There is an entry in the Wills & Testament section of Scotlands People which has:

Joseph Hamilton - 7 December 1839. Tenant at Chapel. Dumfries Sheriff Court

It  doesn't state what type of document it may be (will/testament/inventory for example).

There is another entry also in 1839 in Dumfries, but not sure if connected to your Joseph.

Monica  :)

Regarding the Jean aged 10 showing in 1841, I wonder if there is a mistake on her age? There is a daughter Joan showing as christened in July 1838 to Joseph and wife Agnes.

MI for Joseph here http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bp2000/cemetery/monumental_inscriptions.htm

There is mention there of his daughter Joan who died in 1840 - so not Jean with an error on age for the 1841 census  :)

Added: Not sure if you have come across this info previously http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=stevensancestors&id=I4597

Hi  Hannahville,
I have just found this post so you may have all the information you need . My husband is related to the Hamiltons, Joseph`s brother Archibald 1772 is my husbands direct ancestor . We have just come back from Torthorwald and Wamphray, took quite a few photos of headstones . They are on my tree on Ancestry ,if you can access it .
