Bargoed House was home to the Chief Agent of the Ocean Collierys. When J P Gibbon was manager he lived at Brynawel
Mary Street Treharris ,again another Ocean property.

Clive Ray Thomas , Jacob's grandson born in Australia any info ?

In 1911 Jacob had 9 children 5 dead according to the Census ?

Thank you again for info given. The earliest I have the Ray family is 1851 at pontranch Pontypool. I do know that their children were bapstised at Trosnant Baptist Chapel Pontypool. Ann, John and James all in 1833. Do you know the maiden name of James wife Ann?
On jacob's grave which is a very odd grave there is also the name Owens. On the 1901 census there were Owens living with them in Bargoed house. I have to go over the cemetery next week and will look at the inscription in more detail and get back to you with that.

My grandfather as I said was close to the family in Bargoed House. When his father was killed in the Senghenydd disaster , his mother was left with 10 children. He would have to go over to the big house (Bargoed) and his aunt would fill a basket with food or his mother. Of course Bargoed House was demolished some years ago to make way for the health clinic and bus stop which is sad. You may be interested in a picture on the net of Bargoed house.

I have been told by an old aunt that the people outside the house were Ray's, don't know if that is true. Pic half way down.

My notes on my grt grt grandmother Hannah Ray. Hannah married Lewis Meredith on 21st Oct 1857 . Hannah died 26/04/1888 and Lewis died 12/04/1888

My grt gran Mary Jane meredith b 1872 married Edward Rowlands and died 1928.

Ann Ray's maiden was Lewis, do you have any dob's from that christning ? good information exchange !
I know where John and Jacob are buried and Elias probably in Barry as that is where he was when he died a grocer.
Any idea on the rest ?

Hi that would be great. I have little info on my Ray family. Mylate grandfather was close to them but have lots on the Merediths.
