Madgewick Family (sailing for South Africa late 1800-early 1900
« on: Friday 27 June 14 11:59 BST (UK) »
Unfortunately I'm not sure about the names of the parents since they died shortly after arriving in South Africa and the children were placed in an orphanage. Children names were William, John, Hannie, Christian, and more??? (the surname is now spelled Madgwick). Christian was my husband's grandfather, died in the early 1950s, and he mentioned having sailed from Scotland to South Africa. Is there anyone who can help with finding out more about this family?

Do you know when the children were born and where?

There is a Madgewick family sailing from Glasgow to Durban but in 1940 - too recent?
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Can't see the surname on the 1891 or 1901 Scottish census

1891 does have Madgwick, the only child with the name is Elizabeth born 1890
