I can't get the first word but the second two are "Phillipin Island".

Might that translate to the Philippines?

I see there are some 'exotic' places on the list like Siam and Manilla.

Unsure what the first word would be as it is under the heading of "Country."  I can't work out what the first letter is but the rest looks like ?abateo. 

I see one of the passengers above is from Philippine Islands Manilla, so perhaps the place name is in the country column and vice versa. Therefore we should be trying to find a place in the Philippines with a name similar to ?abateo.

I would think so Ruskie. The first five people on the manifest are from "Philippin Island, Manila".

I presume the place name before Phillipin Island on the lines in question is a city or province in the Philippines but I haven't yet been able to find it. I keep reading it as Babateo or Pabateo which is getting me nowhere.

Manila is a city in the Philippines. Siam is the old name for Thailand. We're definitely in that region of south east Asia.

Even though the mystery word is in the Country column, I think it's a city or region, because Philippin Island is the country (as per the previous lines) and it's just been written oops about.
