Help needed Joseph Samuel BOYCE
« on: Friday 05 June 09 13:16 BST (UK) »
Would appreciate any help on Joseph Samuel BOYCE born abt 1855 County Down. Thats all I have birth wise but we have Joseph leaving Ireland and married Fannie GREGSON in New Zealand on the 5 July 1877. They had 2 children in NZ and the 3rd child was born in NSW in 1881. So Joseph left Ireland sometime before 1877 which would make him about 22 years old.
Appreciate a good detective

Did Joseph Samuel give his father's name when he married?  Usually the father's name and occupation are declared on the marriage certificate.  RosemaryJoan

No sign of his marriage in Ireland.  Was Fannie Gregson from Ireland?  Her surname is not so common and we might be able to trace him through her people.  There a lots of Boyces living in the Parish of Tullylish, particularly in the Townland of Ballydugan.  Sometimes there is a clue in the naming of their children - often after the grandfathers.  Can you give us a few more clues??  RosemaryJoan

There's also a daughter with mother listed as Bessie Turtle (suspect this should be Sarah)

There were a lot of Boyces living in Tullylish Parish, which is close to Moira, including a Samuel and a Joseph.  Could be family names

Boyce                Alexander            Ballydugan                              Tullylish     Down
Boyce                David                Ballydugan                              Tullylish     Down
Boyce                James                Ballydugan                              Tullylish     Down
Boyce                John                 Ballydugan                              Tullylish     Down
Boyce                John                 Ballynagarrick, Upper                   Tullylish     Down
Boyce                Joseph               Ballydugan                              Tullylish     Down
Boyce                Nathaniel            Ballydugan                              Tullylish     Down
Boyce                Robert               Ballydugan                              Tullylish     Down
Boyce                Samuel               Ballydugan                              Tullylish     Down
Boyce                Thomas               Ballydugan                              Tullylish     Down
Boyce                William              Ballydugan                              Tullylish     Down

It's just possible that Joseph and Fannie knew each other in Ireland.
Still thinking.  Rosemary Joan (nee Anderson)
