Re background info I was looking at elsewhere... www.GenesReunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1255194

Still wondering whether the person you are trying to help has the marriage cert from 1907. If we can have William's father's name and maybe occuaption confirmed, it will give more confidence to the searches.

Sorry William - if you have internet access you can search Scotlands People - www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

And my mistake  :-[ Lochwinnoch is not in Ayrshire but is in Renfrewshire.
I will amend my earlier post.

Nothing relevant showing I think for 1881 for a William Jones in the Renfrewshire area... :-\

In 1891 in Renfrewshire, there is a William John Jones b. Wales in a children's home at Bridge of Weir, aged 11 and an orphan. Likely a couple of younger siblings also there.

Struggling a bit here...we likely need a few more hard facts to work from to try and find any Scottish connections.

I have looked on Scotlands People but cannot find a birth of a Wil*** Jones at Lochwinnoch Renfrewshire between 1877 and 1880.
There is however a birth registered in 1880 at Riccarton, Ayrshire of a William Jones.

There is also a Jessie Jones birth year circa . 1869 born Ayrshire at Riccarton on the 1881 Census.

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KM2F-WD1

Added - there is a Jessie Jones registered in Kilmarnock 1868.
Also checked Janet Jones as Jessie can be short for Janet in Scotland but didn't find anything in Ayrshire.

You can see where the Ayrshire angle came in from one of his enlistment papers for WW1

He showed as aged 37 a year later at the time of his death on www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/502801/JONES,%20W ...so likely his birth date still to be confirmed with some variance...
