OK

Sorry

I'm just confusing myself here !

The Anne record defo appears to say MONAHAN as her Mum's maiden name !

I noted that Anne's first child was child was called GEORGE (out of wedlock)

I did find a George Walsh and Mary Monaghan having children at the same time BUT they are not unusual enough names.

Sorry, no better leads for now !

Hi Tara,Sorry for not replying sooner, just saw your posts which I really appreciate.Annie was catholic and her husband was COI.his mothers name wa Selina and his fathers was George, hence the name for the first child born. And you are correct,The Pro Cathedral is also St.Marys.All the children were baptised  COI and later Catholic. As you say without a mothers name it is really difficult to find Annies birth cert but I am inclined to favour the one from 1867 in Arran Street, although it does not exactly match with her given age later in the census etc.But I suppose working class people then did not put much effort into knowing their birth dates....Strange no siblings of Annie were godparents to any of her children though..

Hi Paul,

The Anne 1867 looks like a good possibility BUT I can't find a good match on the civil register so that you could order the official cert to see if there was a match to John's occupation.

Civil Registry still being in it's infancy could mean that her parent's didn't register Anne's birth.

The baptism does look like the best lead for now.

It's within what I would call normal / expected variables for the time.

Given that Anne married outside of her religion MAY have ostracized her and hence no family members mentioned.

Another possibility is that she may not have had any surviving siblings.

Hi Paul

I MAY have a lead for you !

Do you remember me saying that there was an Eugene Walsh also born at Arran Street !

Well his mother's maiden name said Mullen ~ let's for a minute work on THIS being Anne's mother's maiden name . . .

So, I can see a John Walsh and a Maryanne Walsh also born to this same couple YET in Kingstown (old name for Dunlaoghaire).

So, checking the prison records I can see the son John Walsh has a prison record where he states that he was born in Kingstown (tick), lived in Arran Street in 1887 (tick) and that his occupation was 'tinker' (tick).

Now Anne Walsh said that her father was a 'tinsmith' which MAY be another name for 'tinker'.

Certainly looks more promising to me that Anne's parent's were John Walsh and Mary Anne Mullen.

Tara

I can see another 1901 prison record where the SON John Walsh who was born 1865 is listed as a Tinsmith born in Kingstown so I'm now 100% sure that this is your family !

This is another version with slighter better leads for parent's names on it  (Bad Transcriptions)

Anne's brother John's prison records :

This one from 1901 is VERY sad and probably explains why the trail goes cold for him after this !

I'm afraid that I have found John Walsh Junior in 1905 in Skerries where his crimes were getting worse.
