John is buried in Alford cemetery.

I'm looking for any relations of his who may be able to help with my research.

Theres a marriage in 1942 in Kent - which could be him, in which case he left a widow. Havent checked for children, as they would most likely be alive today and it is against Rootschat policy to post details of living people.
Did the one you are researching marry?

We may not be related, but plenty of people on here are willing to help with your research.
First though you need to tell us what you already have, so we dont duplicate.
Have you found his birth on FreeBMD? Got his birth cert to find out his parents?

I'm not sure that he did. He's related to me, but I'm yet to find the common ancestor.

His parents were David 1890 and Emily Metcalf 1897.

His grave has a Lincolnshire Regiment headstone.

Sadly, in the same quarter (March 1942) there's a death registration for a Dorothy Stainton, aged 21, in Ashford registration district. Ties in with a birth registration for a Dorothy Seale September quarter 1920 Malling registration district.
It would explain why the details on the CWGC site list his parents.
Dorothy is not listed on the CWGC site.

Thats so sad.

Bucktaylor64 - I'm not sure I understand your last post! How do you know he is related to you, if you have not found an ancestor in common?
Am happy to help you trace his family - where have you got stuck? Have you anything more than his parents? FOund them on censuses? Got their birth certs? Dont want to duplicate.

I was told by a relation that he is related, but it can't find the connection.

Every other Stainton that I've been suggested has been found to be related. This being the Lincolnshire Staintons.

This particular one is buried in Alford as are some of my Stainton relations.

How sure are you of his parents' dates?

You have his father as David b 1890, but the only one I can see born around then was David Sydney Stainton born in Dec qtr 1889 Louth.  He seems to have married an Edith Dales in 1921 - not your couple.

On the other hand David Sydney's father was David (no middle name), born Sep qtr 1866 Louth.  He married Alice Robinson in 1887 and may have been widowed by the death of an Alice Stainton aged 54 in Louth in 1918.  Might he have remarried to a younger woman  - the Emily Jane Metcalf marriage was in 1920 - and fathered John?

His likely death, again in Louth district, is Jun qtr 1957 aged 90.

Thanks for the reply. There's hundreds I'd Staintons in the county so it's a fair guess that this may take some time to solve.
