Fraser is buried in France, so the stone is a memorial only.

Although the site is 'Scottish' War Graves - we include all service/military personnel with a connection to Scotland, so being listed in a Glasgow Cemetery - you can't get much more Scottish than that!  ;)

Anne

Anne, thanks for the clarification.  I was also not certain because the Scottish War Graves site contains a section about overseas burials.

It really is a shame that part of the monument is missing.  I'm thinking Fraser's parents may be buried there.  His brothers are most likely buried in England as they all seem to have moved there shortly after WWI.

Hi,

Just to clear up the bit about Confirmation.  It looks like his Brother, John, applied for Confirmation of Fraser's Estate in Scotland, but Fraser must have also had Estate in England and/or Wales and so the Confirmation had to be "sealed" in that jurisdiction also.

Jool, thanks for the additional information, especially the memento-mori link.  I didn't find any other McEwans related to Fraser but I will most definitely be using the link to search for other ancestors.

A very big thank you to everyone who helped me with this.  ;D

I'm wondering if I would learn anything more from Fraser's probate.  I currently live in the US so I would have to order the record.

Hi,

You would only possibly get more information by ordering the Confirmation (Probate is an English term) IF Fraser left a Will.  Confirmation being issued does not mean that there was a Will and, if he died intestate, the Confirmation will only really include an Inventory of his Estate.

I see that the post referred to the English Calendar of Wills and Administrations but that, I think, is the English system listing that the Confirmation will go under when it has to be sealed outwith Scotland.

It may be that the entry found on A*try may state whether he died intestate (and John was an Executor Dative) or testate (and John was an Executor Nominate) and then you would know whether to order a copy of the Confirmation from NRS.

Hope this helps,
