Alfred Tenyson Hudson
« on: Saturday 23 August 14 20:58 BST (UK) »
Hello to All

I wasn't sure if this was the right place to start...!?

I am looking for anyone who may be related to the late Alfred Tenyson Hudson (Tennyson)?
Born November 1879 in Rathfriland.
Known to have a sister Florence Hudson.

Served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force from 1915...
Settled in Northern Alberta til his death 1938? with no immediate family here.

The gent who cares for the local Prebyterian cemetary has found Alfred's grave and would like
for any family to know that this WW1 serviceman has not been forgotten.

1914 border crossing gives his occupation as carpenter and sister Mrs. Florence Heron, The Manse, Bally walter [Ballywalter] Co.Down.

Florence had 3 living children in 1911 (more could have been born after that census)-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Ballywalter/Whitechurch/265627

Brother-in-law George Heron born at Ballykine, Co.Down retired 10 Mar.1944 and died 1 Aug.1959. Florence died in 1956.
"Heron Florence Nightingale of The Manse Main Street Ballywalter county Down died 18 August 1956 at Ards Hospital Newtownards county Down Administration Belfast 31 October to George Heron retired presbyterian minister the husband. Effects £1037 12s."
"Heron George of Ballywalter and of Dunalton 5 Crawfordsburn Road Newtownards both in county Down presbyterian minister died 1 August 1959 at latter place Probate Belfast 14 September to James Wilson Russell solicitor. Effects £1818 8s. 8d."

Son George Victor Heron (the baby in 1911) was also a Presbyterian minister at Armoy and Castlecaulfield & Eglish. George was still alive in 1963.

Ballywalter Presbyterian Church might have some information on relatives of Rev. George Heron-
http://www.ballywalterpci.co.uk/history/

Added-

Florence Nightingale Hudson born 12 Aug.1878 Rathfriland dist.- parents James Hudson & Martha Ann Cromie. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FR4Y-F7V

This might be the father James Hudson-
"Letters of Administration of the personal estate of James Hudson late of Rathfriland County Down Auctioneer who died 14 May 1893 at same place were granted at Belfast to Robert James Hudson of Rathfriland Auctioneer a Son."

If the above James Hudson was Alfred & Florence's father (and it looks likely from the middle name Cromie in this census record) then Robert James Hudson is Alfred, and Martha's, brother-and another brother Henry John in the household:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Rathfryland/Dromore_Street/258460

Another brother Victor in Robert James' household in 1901-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Down/Rathfriland/Dromore_Street/1249964

Let me know if you want any more details.

Many thanks aghadowey

Wow...quick work, in less than an hour you've found more than I have in a day!

The only information I have is Alfred's Attestation Paper.

The cemetary caretaker has applied for & been granted a new headstone and is arranging a small service.
Alfred's situation here is not known but it would appear he didn't marry or have a family...just used a small grant to buy some land!

Give me a few minutes to type up what I've found so far- seems like there might be lots of Hudson relatives.

Sorry for the delay but lots more Hudsons than I realised at first. James Hudson (father of Alfrwed) was married twice and it's possible that he and Florence were the only surviving children from that 2nd marriage. There are several online family trees and the owners might be able to get you contacts with Florence's descendants.

Briefly-
James Hudson (d.1893), auctioneer, m.1 Mary Ann Bell (d.1874); m.2 (1876) Martha Ann Cromie (d.1887).
1.   Margaret May Hudson (1864-1944) m. John Cromie- family.
2.   Robert James Hudson (1866-1871).
3.   Minnie Isabella Hudson (1867-1883).
4.   Annie Edith Hudson (1869-1870).
5.   Robert James Hudson (1871-1934) m.(1891) Agnes Cromie (d.1902); m.(1904) Margaret Hollingsworth (1877-1966).
6.   Adelaide Agnes Hudson (1871-1897).
"Administration of the Estate of Adelaide Agnes Hudson late of Rathfriland County Down Spinster who died 29 June 1897 granted at Belfast to Robert James Hudson Auctioneer."
7.   Henry John Hudson (1872-aft.1911), printer compositor.
8.   Son (1877-1877).
9.   Florence Nightingale Hudson (12 Aug.1878-18 Aug.1956) m. Rev. George Heron (d.1 Aug.1959).
        1.   James Hudson Heron (c1904-18 Aug.1981)
        2.   Norah Margaret Heron (c1907-aft.1911).
        3.   Rev. George Victor Heron (c1910-alive 1963).
10.   Alfred Teenyson Hudson (13 Nov.1879).
        https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FGN2-WM5
11.   George Frederick John Hudson (1883-1889).
12.   Samuel William Hudson (1885-1886).

Try contacting the Presbyterian Herald and asking them to insert a plea for help- (scroll down page for contact details)
http://www.presbyterianireland.org/Related-Bodies/Presbyterian-Herald

Also contact Ballywalter Presbyterian Church (it's quite possible they are in touch with Florence's descendants).

Florence's son George was minister at Armoy and Castlecaulfield Presbyterian churches so might be worth a try contacting them as well-
