Regarding siblilngs to John, I am wondering whether this could be his sister Jessie Crawford Kerr. There is a marriage showing on the Irish indexes for a Jessie Crawford Kerr in Ballina Reg. District in 1862, Vol. 1, pg. 557. Same marriage ref for a John Muirhead. Children showing on IGI to a couple with these names include:

1. James KERR MUIRHEAD b. 31 MAY 1864, Ballina District, Mayo
2. John MUIRHEAD b. 2 DEC 1865 Milton, Glasgow
3. Alexander WOTHERSPOON MUIRHEAD b. 8 APR 1868 Milton, Glasgow

The two Glasgow births show mother's middle name as Crawford. Either of these Glasgow births would also include date and place of parents' marriage.

Can't see the family on the 1871 census transcript to be any more certain unfortunately (in trying to confirm place of birth for mother Jessie).

...But they do show on the 1881 census!

John Muirhead    56, gas engineer b. Glasgow
Jessie Muirhead 44 b. Dunoon
James Muirhead 16 b. Ireland
John Muirhead 15  b. Glasgow
Alexander Muirhead 12  b. Glasgow
Thomas Muirhead 10 b. Ireland....and probably why they don't show in Scotland for 1871! *

Address: Mill St. Tenement, Dunoon

* Thomas' birth shows in Co. Clare on IGI in 1870 - mother mistranscribed as TESSIE Crawfurd Kerr

Who reported the death of mother Catherine Mercer in Dunoon in 1880?

Hi Monica

Thanks I had Jessie married to somebody else but could not confirm it until now
One of John's siblings was Jessie, I have her

Jessie Crawford Kerr was born oct 4 1833 in Dunoon and Kilmun Argyll according to IGI

On Catharine death certificate is indicates John Muirhead Son in law as the informant I had a hard time telling what his last name was until you indicated
Thanks

Trevor

I have the following information for anyone interested.

This forms my Paternal Aunt's family.

John Muirhead and Jessie Crawford Kerr's Son Alexander Wotherspoon married Margaret ? (We think it might be McIntyre but that is from the memory of two 75+ year old Grandadughters of Alexander and Margaret).

They both died in Grahamstown, South Africa.

Their daughter Catherine Margaret Muirhead (We think she was born in Glasgow ?) Married David IIyffe Dexter in South Africa. Catherine died in Grahamstown, South Africa in 1962.

Catherine and David have 2 daughters (both still alive and living in South Africa)

Jess Marion Wilson (Dexter) and Margaret Lucy (Known as Peggie) Dexter

Jess has a Daughter and Son to her current husband and a son by a previous Marriage

regards

Iain
