I imagine it's a by-product of the change from NAS to NRS.  What did we do to waste time before we had malfunctioning computer systems? Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Has anyone tried the NAS catalogue in the last few days at www.nas.gov.uk/onlineCatalogue - I am still getting a problem page, ie not connecting. I can connect to the National Records of Scotland site OK via www.nrscotland.gov.uk but cannot connect either to the catalogue that way either.  Trying just www.nas.gov.uk remains a problem  :-\

Monica

PS: Tried both via Firefox and IE.

It looks like a major problem at their end - I've sent a contact note to National Records asking if there is a problem with access.

Only an auomated response so far from NRS and trying the NAS sites returns the same error message as before.

I phoned NRS just now. The somewhat embarrassed person who answered said yes, there is a problem with the web site, yes, they are trying to fix it and no, he had not been given any indication how long it will be.

From Tidybook/Tom's post elsewhere...NAS is back up and running...hurray!

George Frew can now be searched on the catalogue there:

AD14/60/202 - Precognition against George Frew for the crime of reset of theft at Princes Street, Glasgow 1860. Accussed George Frew, watch and clock maker, Address: Coatbridge, Lanark.

JC26/1860/242 - Trial papers relating to George Frew for the crime of reset of theft at Princes Street, Glasgow. Tried at High Court, Glasgow (Second Court). George Frew, Verdict: Guilty, Sentence: Penal servitude - 4 years.

The actual paper copies are available to order direct via post from NAS, using above references.

Hi Monica, thanks very much for the info.

Actually I was really lucky during the week. A  relative who happened to be up in Edinburgh just for the day, visited the NAS and is ordering some paper copies of relevant documents for me.

I really glad to hear that NAS seems to be fully operational again and I appreciate you letting us know.

Regards
