As I understand it FreeBMD only covers England and Wales - these results are from the Irish BMD Index on the Familysearch website - see the links in the Introduction topic above.

The index only covers up to 1958... so would not include a death in 2004

Would Michael's son have lived in Jersey?

....
Michael Caulfield might of served in WWII as he was aged 25.

If that marriage is correct then Michael was in Ireland during at least part of WWII - so if he served with anyone, it's likely to be the Irish Army, during what we called the Emergency.

yup, perfect, that's correct. the grandson said that that is around the date he died.  :)

could we try and find Elizabeth Clarke's dob if possible & Michael's WWII Records, if he did serve?  :)

Searching for a birth for Elizabeth would be guesswork until you know some details to confirm possible matches for her, such as an approximate year of birth, and her father's name and occupation. My guess is that she may have been from Athlone - since that's where the marriage was..

If Michael served in the Irish Army then the place to check with is the Military Archives, you need to make an appointment and visit them to view the records. I think you need proof of a family connection to access the more recent records - see : http://www.military.ie/info-centre/military-archives

there's a birth for an Elizabeth Kathleen Clarke in the Athlone district in the Oct/Dec Qtr of 1911. It's the only one that I see between 1906 and 1926, and about 4 (including a Lizzie) births for Elizabeth Clarkes in the Ballymahon district over the same timeframe.

That could possibly be the right birth for Elizabeth, the year of birth is spot on in my opinion. I will ask my friend to ask his grandfather (whos in africa doing charity work) if he knows any information regarding his mother and also his father.
