FOSTER, Joseph (b.c1854)
« on: Tuesday 06 September 11 08:48 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I am looking for information on Joseph FOSTER (b.c1854) who married Mary WILSON (b.c1864). I have record of them having 13 children all born in Rathfriland, County Down. This is the only information that I have.

Joseph is believed to have been a boot maker.

His daughter, Susanna Wilson FOSTER (b.1891, Ireland. d.1983 South Africa) is my great grandmother. She came out to South Africa around 1902 with her older brother William Charles FOSTER (b.1880) who became the mayor of Cape Town from 1937-1939.

Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards,
Leigh Thomas

Hi all,

Thank you for the replies! Yes, that is him I believe, and on the 1901 census. I also found him on the 1911 census, where it appears that his wife has died. From word of mouth, he apparently remarried after her death in New Zealand, so I am trying to find his immigration records too...

Thanks for the help!

Hi

I am researching my family and have been told that we are related to Fosters from Rathfriland.

My great grandfather was Alexander Foster and he was a shoe maker originally from Dromore Co Down and then set up business in Lurgan.  I believe that he is somehow connected to the Foster who was a shoemaker in Rathfriland and I amd try to find the connection.  His fathers name was Archibald Foster and the family spent time in America before returning to Ireland.

I was wondering if you have found any connection?
