Hello everyone, my name's Carole and i'm re-searching my family tree. The names that i'm most interested in are:
Gifford - ( my maiden name)
Grant - (names that married Grant's were Symon, Esson, Munro)
McHattie,
Wood"park" - (park is their tee name, from Portknockie)
Geddes - (moved from Buckie to Glasgow to Rothesay,Bute)
Robertson - (one married a McLean,another a Hollier)
Cowie and
Thomson.
All the above were from Buckie,Portgordon,Fordyce and Portknockie,Banffshire.
Fingers crossed, Carole.
-
Carole,
Do tell me about your Robertson/Hollier connection - this one may be new to me! Not many Holliers ever turned up in Scotland.

Hi Peter, You can check it out in my family tree website:
http://www.tribalpages.com/tribes/meelymunch
Harry Hollier [a seaman]born 1884.
His parents were [Thomas Henry Hollier and Bertha Harris, according to the LDS Site from Warrickshire,UK]
He married my gg cousin Margaret Robertson on 20th Nov 1908 in Aberdeen.
On her death certificate it says : Margaret Hollier (known as Mellan)No mention of being either a divorcee or a widow.
Informant of death was John Mellan of the same address so i`m assuming she was separated and living with John Mellan as husband and wife.
I have no idea what happened to Harry Hollier and have yet to find out if they had any children together.
Cheers, Carole.

Carole,
No, I'm sorry. Just one of many thousands of individuals in my One-Name Study - have collected the BMD index entries but certificates have to be bought sparingly.

Hi Carole
My 5th Great-Grandmother was a margaret McHattie who married Will Robertson on July 17 1798 in Grange.
Their daughter Janet married James Grant on October 5 1823 in Forglen.
Any of these familiar to you?
Mary

Carole,
Some of the surnames you listed are on the fringe of my maternal lines (MCINTOSH from Nairn & COULL from Portgordon). All listed below are in Portgordon or Buckie.
1. Jean GEDDES married Peter REID in Buckie c. 1790.
2. Jessie THOMSON b. 1839 the daughter of William THOMSON and Helen COWIE and married William COULL in Portgordon in 1862.
3. Anne COWIE married Alexander REID in Portgordon c. 1850.
Thought I would post these on the off chance you may find a link now, or at some stage in the future. Try the various OneName Study Groups. I know there are people who have researched families in this region pretty thoroughly because the small population meant lots of inter-marriages between the same local families. I got most of my COULL info from just such a person.
From a website perspective you can't beat - http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp
Good luck,

Hi Carole
There's a great site for Port gordon/Enzie/Rathven for your Geddes line.
Try this link http://rgu-sim.rgu.ac.uk/history/family_history.htm
Just don't get lost in it. ther's so much detail it's possible to get carried away and forget to come out for dinner, or breakfast or lunch next day !! ;D
I'm from the Hendry (Beamer) line myself.

Hello,
Alexander Wood born 1810ish and married to Ann Sutherland is my great great great grandfather - sounds like you and I are 3rd cousins ?
I can send you a ged file if you like
Although there is a lot of data out there I do wonder about the accuracy of the 1700s stuff - I quite easily "hoovered up" a heap of people on that line on ancestry that got me back to mid 1600s.

I have just started tracing my family history, I am Symon living in Englad, and have managed to trace back as far as 1871 Scottish census to a William Symon D.O.B 1841 born in Fordyce Banffshire. If you have any information or ideas on how I can trace back further please reply.

Go to Scotlands People website. It is excellent.

I have been researching my Portgordon/Buckie lines. My Maternal Grandmother is (now deceased -2006) a Reid. I was given the website address of Peter Reid, Professor, who has actually done a lot of my work for me.... in fact, my mother wrote him several years ago thinking ,perhaps he could be a relative. Not,... his website is www.portgordon.org Peter is currently updating it but the family names are there :) with their ancestors/descendants... I mention this site as I did not see mention of it here...of course.. it may be known now. I have a Family Tree an ancestry.com. it is public. under Wardle.
Any info to fill in my holes will be greatly appreciated.. Let me know if I could be of any help,too...TX!
