Considine Family Clare, Ireland
« on: Thursday 20 March 08 11:12 GMT (UK) »
Looking for information concerning the family of Daniel Considine and his wife Catherine Hogan.  Their daughter Elizabeth Considine born 1869 immigrated to Western Australia about 1888.  She died 1919 and the family has no information on her family in Ireland.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Elizabeth's birth certificate would list the exact place (townland) where she was born. With that information you could search for church records (if they still exist), Griffith's Valuation and other sources.
IGI lists 6 children for Daniel Considine and Catherine Hogan but there could be others, both before start of civil registration (1864) and after the ones here):
1. Peter born 27 June 1864 Ennis district, Clare, Ireland
2. Michael Andrew born 14 July 1866 Ennis district, Clare, ireland
3. Patrick William born 4 Mar.1868 Ireland
4. Elizabeth born 8 July 1869 Co. Clare, Ireland
5. Bridget born 26 Dec.1870 Ireland
6. Martin born 1 Oct.1872 Co. Clare, Ireland

Note: Ennis is the registration district  for the first 2 births but you still need the actual townland (or at least the parish) to search for records.

1911 and 1901 census are gradually being put online by National Archives, Dublin (almost all earlier census records destroyed).

I was just going to put my bit on too- didn't get all the children in Family Search but I have added a bit extra

Goodmorning
Family Search has children for Daniel Considine and Catherine Hogan, including Elizabeth.
They are Michael Andrew b 1866; Peter 1864 and Martin 1872 - they indicate the Ennis area.
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?hogan::considine::76.html
indicates that Michael may have emigrated to USA.

I think the best thing would be to get Elizabeth's birth certificate:
http://www.groireland.ie/
then you will have Daniel's occupation and place names to follow up. After that there may be Parish records for the marriage and  the 1901 and 1911 census that possibly could be checked for remaining relatives.

best wishes
heywood

just out of interest aghadowey, do you know why I can't find Bridget and Patrick William on IGI - are they spelt differently? It's intriguing me.

Heywood- I got all the children using parents names only but I suspect that you searched using Co. Clare. Bridget and Patrick William are listed as being born in 'Ireland' and won't come up under Co. Clare.

Thank you very much everyone for your information.  I wasn't sure if the information under FamilySearch was correct.  Looking on Elizabeth's headstone on her grave.  She died in January 1919 aged 45 years. This makes her birth year as 1873.  The dates wrong or she lied about her age.
Was hoping to hear from family who may have photos, as we have no discription of Elizabeth.

Thanks again

Kaye

Kaye- another possibility is that the parents had a daughter Elizabeth who died young and they later names another daughter Elizabeth- quite common years ago. However, ages on death certificates and headstones are only as accurate as the informant.

Hi, Elizabeth considine married Mr Edward Arthur Goodwin in Mt magnet Western Australia 25 oct 1899. They had one son Arthur Francis born 21 Aug 1900. Edward died 29 Jun 1939 in bullfinch WA buried in Southern Cross WA. Her sister Delia (Della) considine emigrated out after her (della was my great grandmother). I think there was 8 kids in Elizabeth and delia's family. Another sister not listed below was possibly called Gladys. Delia was born 10 march 1871. I will try find more info on Elizabeth. Edward's father was William Goodwin born 1828 in Ireland and his mother was Emma Ward born 28 Oct 1840 in Rock Flat near Coma, NSW. Delia lied about her age too - a family trait perhaps ? Lol.
Rgds Louise.
