I wonder if Mary was from Glossop and was "sent" outside the parish to Chesterfield to have James, it wasn't unusual, my grandmother had an illegitimate child in a home well away from where she lived, she returned home some time after. So Mary could have gone back to Glossop, might be worth looking at neighbouring parishes though just in case her parents wanted to keep their grandson a bit quiet.
