Hannah Leach b abt 1828 Thornton Bradford
« on: Tuesday 04 May 10 09:57 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find her parents. I think Hannah is recorded in the 1861 census as being married to Abraham Drake living in Thornton with children William Mary Ann and Charley. However when I looked up Abrahams marriage I could only find a marriage for him to a Mary Leach. So I am wondering who is the mother of the children.
I am really looking for someone who is researching The Leach / Drake family.
Can anyone help please?

This looks possible   but there are a couple of Hannah Leach marriages around the right time ....

  Hannah Leach
  Moses Silson          Bradford 1860

 1861 census

Moses  Silson hd 27 dairyman   Clayton
 Hannah          wi 32 weaver          Thornton
Emily Leach dau u 5                       Thornton.
 Thornton  RG9/3336 F 100 P4

However this could also be the other Hannah that shows on 1851 as daughter of James & Nanny Leach also born 1828.

 Just a thought......  Tazzie

Thanks for the information
I have come across James and Nanny Leach but not sure about them
I really need to know who Abraham Drake married in 1854 in the Bradford or Thornton and if it was Hannah
was she the mother of William Mary Ann and Charley.

Seadragon,

I am researching the Leach and Drake families from Thornton.  My married name is in fact Leach.  I have not come across your Hannah in my family tree, but would be more than happy to compare information to see whether there is a connection between our two trees.

Best Wishes

hi CJL
Maybe you can help.
The search for Hannah Leach begun because I found a tapestry at my mothers house which has an inscription Hannah Leach 1851.My mum says this tapestry hung in her grandfathers house. He was called Wright Stanley
who was married in 1886 to Mary Ann Drake who was born in 1858 in Thornton.I believe Mary Ann's father was Abraham Drake born 1827 .In the 1861 census Hannah aged 34 appears as wife to Abraham with children William 6 ,Mary Ann 3,and Charley 3.But yet when I look for a marriage between Hannah and Abraham I can only find one for him to Mary Leach in1854.Then in the 1871 census there is no record of Hannah (she must have died) and Abraham is married to Elizabeth. In 1881 Abraham and family are living in Green Lane Thornton.
As you will have found out there are lots of Drakes and Leach's in the Thornton area and I am finding it difficult as to which family my Hannah belongs.( I did think maybe To James and Nanny)
Hope you could follow my ramblings.

Seadragon,

I see what you mean, I also cannot find a marriage of an Abraham Drake to a Hannah Leach, just the 1854 marriage to a Mary Leach.  I wonder whether her name was Mary Hannah and she chose to be known by her second forename Hannah.

It would appear that Hannah Drake died in 1868 at the age of 40.  There is the registration of the death of a Hannah Drake in Bradford in the Jan-feb-mar quarter, Volume 9b, page 105.

It then appears that Abraham remarried in 1869 his second wife being Elizabeth Redman.

Maybe the way forward would be either to order the 1854 marriage certificate for Abraham Drake or one of the three childrens birth certificates, which should include their mothers maiden name.

I am sorry that I have not really been of much help to you.  If I can be of any further help, please just ask.

I know what you mean about there being a lot of Drakes and Leach's in the Thornton area. I have both families in my family tree and I am also finding it difficult working out which family belongs to which.

Best Wishes

Seadragon,

I am sorry that I could not have been more help to you.  Thank you for your good wishes regarding my research.

I hope that Mary Ann's birth certificate will help you establish the name of her mother and wish you good luck with your future research.

If I can be of any help in the future with regard to your Leach and Drake families - I think there must be a connection between our families somewhere along the line, please to not hesitate to send me a pm.

Best Wishes
