Wortley Baptism?
« on: Friday 17 August 12 07:37 BST (UK) »
Hi folks

Can anyone with access to the Wortley parish records see if they can find a birth of Charles HOUGH (b 1802-1807)?  Can't find him on Ancestry or Familysearch.

He is recorded as born and living in Wortley in the 1851 and 1861 Census (also there in 1841).

I think I have his death at Jun Q 1867 Wortley 9c 123 aged 64, although the 1841-61 Census ages are 35, 44 and 53 respectively, so don't quite match up.

Any help greatly appreciated, as he is a real mystery.

I've just noticed that the Wortley baptisms for St Leonard's are searchable on the Sheffield Indexers site, but can't find him there either.  If he was born at Wortley, what other churches might there be which might be worth searching?

I'm trying a different track.

I've seen on West Yorkshire Baptisms, Marriages and Burials 1512-1812 in Ancestry that there is a baptism of Ann HOUGH 18 Jun 1810 to Mary and Charles at St Mary's Barnsley. They are listed as being from de Hole Mill, Parish of Darfield.  I've attached the entry extract (including the entry below theirs, which also mentions de Hole Mill).

I'm speculating  ::) that these could be my Charles's parents.  Can anyone find any other births for this couple?  Can someone who is familiar with the area tell me where or what de Hole Mill is?

Many thanks.

Google Hoyle Mill Barnsley and you will see its on the outskirts of Barnsley town centre on Pontefract Road, Hoyle Mill is the name of the area/village.
