Wedding of Woods and Somers
« on: Wednesday 19 March 14 00:14 GMT (UK) »
My g.grandfather Thomas Woods married Catherine Somers about 1866-1868. Family lore said she might be from Carlow Town
I have found on the Irish Marriage Index- Carlow 1868,vol. 8, pg.326 a "Thomas Woods", but have not been able to see actual marriage data. If someone can access the Carlow marriage info from the mid to late 1860's I would be very grateful. Need their ages and parent,s names
Thanks, Townsend76

There are births showing in Meigh, Armagh for children of a couple by that name
Bridget 3rd Oct 1864
Catherine 21 April 1868
Bernard 1 Nov 1870.

The birth of Bridget in 1864 would suggest a marriage before civil registration started if a Catholic marriage.

Thanks Dathai
The Bernard you listed is my grandfather.I did not know of Bridget's birth year. I'll have to look at marriages 1860-1863 and hope

I would say you have a tough job ahead of you as marriages usually took place in the brides parish as Catherine on the 1901 census says born Carlow however if for some reason she was working in Armagh it is also likely that they married there'
Being Catholic their marriage is unlikely to appear on any index and you dont know if they had any children prior to 1864 as the index only starts then'
I suggest you get a copy of Bridgets birth cert to pin down an area where they most likely married if you get this you might find the number for the microfilm for the church in the area or get some help here on the Armagh board.

Cheers
Dathai.
