McIvor - Ardboe area 1817 onwards
« on: Thursday 18 August 05 13:05 BST (UK) »
Hello

My name is Dette and I am researching my mum's family.  My great great grandfather Jeremiah McIvor was born in Ardboe, Co. Tyrone, in 1817 to Jeremiah McKeever and Ann McSloy.

Jeremiah McIvor married (1) Sara on 25 May 1849 in Ardboe and they had four children -
Patrick (b? d1916) stayed in Ireland and married Isabella Shields
Nancy Ann (b 15 March 1850 & d 1866)
Joseph (b 12 December 1853 & d 31 October 1925) went to Australia in 1880
Mary (b 2 November 1859 & died 1869).

Jeremiah's second wife was Isabella Harbison.  They had 5 children.

I would appreciate any info about the first family, particulary when and where Sara was born and her death.

Thanking you in anticipation

Hello Dette,

Would you mind clarifying your message please ??? I am slightly confused. ??? Was there a surname change ??? When did Jeremiah McIvor's surname change since his parents were Jeremiah McKeever and Ann (nee McSloy) ???

All the Best, Chris

Hi Chris

The surnames are as I wrote them.  When I found this info, this is how the surnames were in the registers in Co Tyrone.

Back in 1995, I was in London and went to the Society of Geneology's fair in London.  Among the stall holders was a man from outside of Dungannon who runs a facility that does family history research (I can't remember his name).  It was he who found my Jeremiah's birth and the names of his parents.  The surname given on his birth registration was McKeever but he spelt it as McIvor on his marriage, which is the name that came to Australia.

I hope this clarifies things for you.

Me and my aunt tried to telephone you.. we looked up your name on the internet, for telephone pages for Brisbane, but there was no answer the couple of times we tried!!!

You have an old posting, from about 10 years ago, that has an email address, but it doesn't work!!

We have been really excited to try to get in touch with you... we have lots of family in Australia, and the same great, great grandparents... I would love to talk to you!
