Woodyards of Norfolk
« on: Saturday 05 April 14 16:03 BST (UK) »
One of my earliest relatives to Canada was John Woodyard, born in Norfolk (parish of Woodbridge) in 1795, son of John Woodyard and Mary Hoves. He married Elizabeth Everet (b. 20 January, 1797 - , daughter of Thomas and Mary Everet of Runton, Norfolk) and they moved to Canada (Ontario) in the 1840s or thereabouts.

I have no idea who these earlier relatives were or what they did as their occupation. I assume they were farmers since John was a farmer in Canada.

I would love to hear more about the Woodyards, Hoves, and Everets. Thanks.

Hello Dramagal,

Found Elizabeth Everet's baptism on the Archdeacons Transcripts from Runton -

Thomas and Mary had several other children in Runton.

One baptism, for William Everet in 1801 luckily gives mother's maiden name - Blyth

I couldn't find a marriage for Elizabeth's parents in Runton, so perhaps they married in her parish.
I'll have a look at places nearby.

Woodbridge was actually in Suffolk, and it may be an idea to post on the Suffolk Board.

Thomas and Mary married in 1794 at Beeston Regis, which is a couple of miles from Runton.

The marriage entry also states that Thomas was of the parish of Runton, so definitely the right one.
Interestingly, they married by licence - which could give a little more detail.

Hi again,

A little more useful information from the Marriage Bond.
The first page shows Thomas was a husbandman, aged 38 and upwards, so giving him a birth date of around 1756, and that Mary was about 28.
The next page (image no. 205) gives the same information, but also that Thomas was a widower.

Hi Yorkslass. Thanks for your posting. Much appreciated.

The duplication of names throughout England gives me a lot of grief. I had found another Thomas Everett while searching on Ancestry, but now I don't think this is the right one. Here are the details from an 1841 census:
_____________________________________________________________

Age:   73
Estimated birth year:    abt 1768
Gender:   Male
Where born:   Norfolk, England
Civil Parish:   St Mary Tivetshall
Hundred:   Diss
County/Island:   Norfolk
Country:   England
Street address:

Occupation:

.
Registration district:   Depwade
Sub-registration district:   Diss
Neighbors:    View others on page
Piece:   758
Book:   16
Folio:   5
Page Number:   4
Household Members:
Name   Age
Thomas Everett   73
Lydia Everett   70
Sarah Everett   33
Mary Everett   6
Jane Everett   4
____________________________________________

From what you have given me, this man is definitely NOT the right one, correct?
Again, I really appreciate your efforts. Thank you.

Hello Dramagirl,

No, definitely not the couple I found marrying in Beeston Regis.

There was another Thomas Everett, but he married Lydia Tuck in 1796, so they're the ones you found on the census.

It looks like "your" Thomas Everet and Mary had both died before the 1841 census  :(

Freereg has deaths in Runton for a Thomas Everett 25 March 1821, aged 70, and Mary Everett 1 April 1836, aged 70  -  there was about 10 years between them so it looks right.
