Hi,

I've reached a bit of a dead end, where I could really do with reviewing the records of the Kings Lynn New Conduit Street Chapel, which was demolished many years back now.

I can find only one reference to the records of this chapel... at the Norfolk Record Office, who seem to have 2 microfilm's of interest:
Members 1821-1850 MF 1620/9
Baptisms 1838-1850 MF 1620/11
(I can find no informal chapel records)

Does anyone know of any way to access these records without going to Norfolk? I can't find them listed on familysearch etc...

Basically, I have reference to a child in the 1851 census that I am trying to trace (believed ancestor). He is named John Green, born circa 1843 from Kings Lynn, though he is listed with a father: Robert Green and mother:Elizabeth Green (nee Beeson) in 1851 who married AFTER his birth in this chapel. He doesn't exist in the birth index for England, so I believe I'd need to look through the records for this chapel in the hope that he was baptised there, given his parents clearly used that chapel.

Does anyone have any links to such records online, or know of anyway to get the microfilm from another source? It's a long way to Norfolk from Devon, for me!

There's a marriage on FreeBMD for Robert Green, Kings Lynn, Jun 1847 13  293 - on the same page Elizabeth Beeson

Is this the Green family in '51 (ref  HO107  1829  112  11)
Robt, 25, Elizabeth 29, John 8, Ellen 5, Robt 2, and Richard 0

There is a FreeBMD birth for Ellen Attmore Beeson, Kings Lynn, Mar 1846, 13  175 - could be the Ellen, age 5, on the '51 Census? Her age on the census predates the '47 marriage.

Re John Green, age 8, on the '51 Census, is he Robert or Elizabeth's son pre marriage? Robert would have been very young in 1843 (about 18) - but doesn't rule him out.

Thanks Hanes,

That's the chapel reference I used. I tracked the Independent Chapel to in-fact be "New Conduit Street Chapel" in Kings Lynn. Hence the request for any sign of this chapels records.

I'm unsure as to whether he is a son of Robert or Elizabeth. Though Elizabeth appears in a census with him in later life, as his mother, so I'm guessing he is probably born of her, and not Robert.

Hard man to track down! I can't even trace his birth for a birth certificate!

Anyone with access to the chapel records would really appreciate help in seeing if they hold a clue. Hanes is correct on the 1851 census:
(ref  HO107  1829  112  11)
Robt, 25, Elizabeth 29, John 8, Ellen 5, Robt 2, and Richard 0

Hi,

There are two baptisms that could tie in.

Ellen Atmore baptised 24/03/1848 at St Margaret's, Kings Lynn.
Mother Elizabeth Beeson.

John Harrison baptised on 24/04/1848 at St Margaret's, Kings Lynn.
Mother Elizabeth Beeson.

Abode on both records was St James Street.

Wow, that's fantastic, thank you Sharon!!

From what I can tell (FreeBMD search), there are only 2 John Harrison's born in the period from 1841 to 1848 in Kings Lynn:
John Harrison (in Dec 1841 index)
John William Harrison (in Sep 1848 index)

With the Baptism being before John William Harrison was born, it looks likely that John may have been  baptised later than many (circa 7 years old).

Does your information have anything else on the baptism per chance? e.g. Father, or Date of Birth? Would be great to have a copy, if you're looking at physical records.

If there's no further info, I think I might need to buy the birth certificate, as John Harrison 1841, may be the missing link I've been trying to track down. The fact that Ellen appears there too (and with another surname) is odd, and would explain so much of a challenge around this part of the family search!

Many thanks for the info, I had a very long list of surname options, and no reason for Harrison to stick out from the others! Appreciate your help immensely.

Is that freereg.org.uk Sharon? I can't trace either of them via the search on this site. Am I doing something silly?

But in the name Beeson and this will bring up both baptisms (mother's surname).
