Alice May Knight Tunbridge Wells
« on: Monday 02 June 14 17:56 BST (UK) »
Im looking for information about Alice May Knight who in 1918 was awarded a patent for improvements in saucepans. I have all of her patent documents but want to know all other information about her.

The 1911 census taken in Tunbirdge Wells just lists Alice May Knight born 1892 Tunbrdge Wells, living with her husband Henry Albert Knight born 1873 Islington,London. They are both running a boarding house called "The Pavilion" at 85 Mount Pleasant Rd. The census says they had no children and had been married 2-1/2 years. I want to know when and where they were married ; what Alices maiden name was and any information about her parents and siblings ; any children she may have had and when/where she died etc.

A 1899 directory records her husband running a lodging house at 60 Mount Ephraim T. Wells bu that would have been before the marriage to Alice.I have all the information I need to know about Alice's husband except for when and where he died. Anyone know?

There are four births in Tonbridge of Knight (mothers maiden name Standing) -

1914 - Lucy U C Knight

The others are from 1920 - 1923, I will not post their names as there is a chance they may still be alive, however you can find them yourself on FreeBMD  :).

Think this is Alice and family in 1901 at 43 Shatten Road [??].

Samuel Denton    38 - carter, b T Wells
Elizabeth Denton  30 - wife b Southborough
Alice M Standing    9 - daughter b Pembury
John Stapley    81 - boarder
Sarah Ware    50

Ref RG13, 754, 127,  63.

Elizabeth Standing married Samuel Denton in Q1 1901 - I'm not sure where she is on 1891. there's an unmarried Elizabeth Standing in Southborough, but she's 7 years too old

But the same person (daughter of Alfred and Frances Standing) is the right age in 1871, so could well be her

Francis Standing    42 b Lambhurst
Alfred Standing            21  b Lambhurst
George Standing    20  b Lambhurst
William Standing    18  b Lambhurst
Thomas Standing    8 b  Hastings
Anne Standing            6 b  Hastings
Emma Standing            4  b  Hastings
Elizabeth Standing    1  b Southborough

Yes I have Henry's trip to New York in 1917. Indicates he was travelling along and intended to live in USA.

Thanks for the other info on the family-very helpful. Mainly need to know now what happened to Alice May Knight (nee Standing) after 1911 census.

Hi There. I see you are interested in the Knight family especially Alice May Standing and her aluminium saucepans but you probably don't know her husband made cigarette rolling machines. I have all of the families names and most of their birth, death, marriage certificates and wills. Please could you tell me your interest in the family. Thank you
