Calling all McCaheys
« on: Tuesday 26 August 14 16:00 BST (UK) »
My great-grandmother Ann McCahey was born 02/08/1875 in Greaghlone, Co. Monaghan to Peter McCahey and Elizabeth (Bessie) McCahey née Crawley. Peter's parents were James McCahey and Mary Finnegan. 109 McCaheys listed in 1901 census, all in Ulster with the exception of one family in Louth and one family in Roscommon. Presumably was a name that arrived with the Ulster plantation. Does anyone else have McCahey roots, and how far back have you got with them? I'm trying to go a bit further back with my McCaheys but am stuck.

p.s. These are my McCaheys in 1901: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Monaghan/Drumcarrow/Drumbrone/1624227/

and in 1911: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Monaghan/Drumcarrow/Drumbrone/797521/

In case you have not seen it, some useful information on the name and its geographical spread here:

On the same site McGahey has a separate entry.

Staying in Monaghan but you can se the same site for all ireland
Around 1861 there are about 9 McCahey homesteads or leased property in their name in Co Monaghan. This may reduce to about 5 when looked up.  You need to look up each on the original page  and note what they had, their townland and their map reference.  This  applies within the Townland when looking up their map section
use http://www.askaboutireland.com, then find their griffith-valuation section

Thank you both, I have all that info already though. Looking for anything pre-1810 or any current McCaheys.
