Furniture by William King, Whitehaven
« on: Thursday 14 August 14 14:26 BST (UK) »
In the early 1800s two of my ancestors had a business manufacturing furniture and looking glasses along with upholstery and guilding  services, under the name W&M King. Then in the mid 1800s the business was taken over by William A King and he continued on until his death in 1865. It appears to have been a very successful operation with some very 'up-market' pieces being produced and indeed exibits were shown at the Great Exibition in London. I'm aware that many of their pieces have traveled all over the world and each one would have  a label pasted somewhere on the pieces provided. I know some pieces have ended up in Australia and I would be interested to know if anyone out there has some such pieces of furniture and if they could provide some background  info / photographs for me to add to my research file.

Many thanks

Might be worthwhile seeking the advice of the Victoria and Albert Museum who have furniture experts:
