Dudley archives look up please St Andrews Netherton burials
« on: Tuesday 30 July 13 09:27 BST (UK) »
Hi. I am looking for the burial of my great grandfather at Netherton St Andrews.  Is there anyone who could look it up for me please.  I know that the records at dudley are not fully available at the moment but am hoping the microfilm for this still is.  His name is William Baker and he died between 1911 and 1933. His address would have been Simms lane Netherton.  I cannot be more specific about his death as I cannot find a death record, but he is on the electerol register in 1914 but not in 1916. The family remained at Simms lane until the late 1930s.  Any other Baker burials with address of Simms lane also greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Not a date no, but according to marriage certificate he was illegitimate and all except one census give his birth as Netherton born approx1844. I have been unable to get anywhere with him because of lack of father/ parent name

Might also be useful to know that two of his children had unusual names! Lammas/lamas died 1912 buried in Netherton. And Ezra .

William is my wife's great-great-great grandfather. Her maternal grandmother was a daughter of Ezer (sometimes recorded as Ezra but definitely Ezer).

I've not been able to penetrate beyond William and I've just posted a query about Eliza his wife.

Malcolm
Thomas, Davies, Jones, Walters, Daniel in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. That should narrow it down a bit!
Vincent: Fressingfield, Suffolk, Stockton & Sunderland.
Murtha/Murtaugh: Dundalk & Sunderland
Ingram: Cairnie by Huntly, Scotland then Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.
Bardouleau: London - in memory of my stepmother Annie Rose née Bardouleau who put up with a lot from me.

Good Morning
I have done the look up you asked for, well most of it.I found his death in 1923 and didn't go on form there.
I think you are going to be in for a bit of a surprise.
21.3.1923 St Andrews  Netherton
William Baker LANE  Sims Lane age 77

The GRO is also under William B Lane Mar 1923 Dudley.
It looks like he was illegitimate .I'm assuming his father was Mr Baker and mother Miss Lane.

Also found his wife and son.
Eliza Baker  18 Rayboulds Field 27.3.1900 age 51
Lamas Baker Hadley's Fold Darby End age 39 years 24.3.1912.
I know the address is not Sims Lane but it is them.

Covered 1913-1923 Baker
1891- May 1901 Baker and Lane
1910-1912 Lane and Baker.
Also did Christenings 1846?-1850 (from start of volume which I thought was the first records for ST Andrews but I didn't write it down)and no sign of him, only illegitimate child called William
William Capewell s of Mary Ann Netherton born 9.3.1846 bapt 3.1.1847.

GRO Birth registrations which would fit with his age at death.
William Lane Sep 1845 Dudley 18 252
William Baker June 1845 Dudley 18 287
William Baker Dec 1845 Stourbridge 18 418

And I would say his wife was Eliza Hunt and that marriage was correct.(No Lane marriages that fit)
Birth reg for her
Eliza Hunt June 1848 Dudley 18 339.

Hope that helps

you may want to look at James and Mary Lane nee Owen at Netherton in 1851 age 40 and 43 .She married a Thomas Baker in 1825 18.7.1825 St Thomas Dudley and doesn't seem to have married James perhaps because her husband was still alive
1851  Northfield Road Dudley
James Lane  40 lab Bewdley
Mary  43 Salop
Prudence  7 Dudley
William 5
George 4
Harriet 3 mths

In latter censuses James is Lamas Lane
1861 Northfield Rd
Lamas Lane 40 unmarried barber and farm labourer Ribblesford?
William Lane 24 coal miner Dudley
George Henry 12 coal miner  Dudley
Harriet Lane 10 Dudley
Mary Maddox 39 house keeper Bridgenorth
He dies 6.6.1885 as a hairdresser Netherton £282 to George Henry Baker of Netherton lab and Henry Smith of Dudley Port lab executors.
He seems to have married at Dudley to a Sussannah Westwood Dudley Dec 1865 6c 283 which should give his father.
Mary seems to have died Dudley Sep 1852 6c 47 as Lane.
There is a death for Thomas Baker 22.3.1837 at Old Swinford but that doesn't explain why Lamas and Mary didn't marry.
Daughter Prudence also marries as Baker to Henry Smith Mar 1865 Stourbridge 6c 169
So does George Henry Dudley Mar 1870 to Sarah Hartshorne 6c 150 and his Will is as Baker 23.2.1927 registered at Birmingham.
Harriet marries as Lane Sep 1878 Dudley 6c 97 to Abednego Watts.
other children Lamas 1840- 16.10.1841 buried 18th
Joseph Lamas Lane s of Lamas and Sussannah bap St Thomas 29..9.1867 born 13.6.1867
Definitely think that's them
ps they are also together in 1841 census at Wolverhampton,Bilston with son Lamas Coseley st

Hi me agian
Just to say that census of 1861 William should read age 14.
All the Children of Lamas and Mary  seen to be registered as Lane .
And finally there is a mortagage for Lammas Lane of Netherton 1870 on sale on E'bay .It failed to sell in January 2014 .You may want to look at the free photos of make him an offer. It was only going for £7.99 so it's not tremendously expensive to own something of your ancestors.
Swear it's not me selling it!
All the best

Thank you Ciderdrinker. I did post a previous "thank you" but that seems to have disappeared into the great interweb of nothingness.

My wallet remains intact and I am occupied in deleting the 150+ Addenbrooks in the tree (although I suspect that sooner or later one of my wife's ancestors will be found to have married one of 'em.
