Non-conformist chapels
« on: Friday 21 November 14 12:46 GMT (UK) »
Good morning

Does anyone know if there were any Nonconformist chapels (or any denomination) in the Crockenhill area of Kent in the 1850's/1860's?  I'm trying to trace a marriage, and although I don't believe that the people in question were Nonconformists, I understand that the timescale was sometimes quicker for such marriages as they didn't necessarily require the same residency periods as C of E.

Many thanks

The marriage should be in the GRO index, wherever it took place. Then the cert will confirm the Church/Registry office etc where the marriage took place.
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Thanks for this Shirl - somewhere for me to start.

I know that the marriage should be listed in the GRO, but as yet I've not found anything.  Which could mean that they never married & she just started using his name, or could mean that either a name was recorded (or given) incorrectly.

He came from what I've seen described as "a notorious criminal family" (they were also gypsies) & his father gave a different first name at his marriage so there is family precedent.  I was hoping that if I could look at some of the registers from different churches & chapels, something might leap out at me.

Back to the coal face....
