What is interesting is that the child bpt. in 1843 to JM and Anne Little is called Irving.

Could it be that Jennet/Janet died and James remarried - a possible.

Not all marriages are recorded in the OPRs for many reasons. There is a posting by JAP on one of the Scottish boards which explains the various reasons for this and the range of marriages that were 'legal' in Scotland. I'll see if I can find the link.

I hadn't thought of that.

Yes he could have remarried. I find it odd that they had widower and no wifes name. He died in lodgings and his son John was witness.

It is possible he remarried.

Thank you for the address.

Hi

Not getting much luck with him on the 1841/1851. I see that he was a shoemaker on his death cert but so far can't locate him as that.  There was a James b. Annan  m. to an Agnes with a son John (aged 13) lodging  in Sanquhar with the Brown/Seaton family in 1851 but he is listed as a general labourer.

Hi there,

I am not getting very far either. Certainly can't seem to locate him.

Yes, he was a shoemaker and I have the right James as his parents were William & Christina (nee Fraser)

As you will have noticed, he died in lodgings, in Annan. Do you think he would have moved out of Annan.

Still thinking about Janet Irving and whether he could have remarried.

Obviously, it's making the connection with Jame's parents that's not going to be easy.

As he was a shoemaker, he could have moved around and might not have been born in Annan - or even married there. It's tricky.

I assume that the ref to Annan is from the death cert.

Have you tried looking for William and Christian. I see that William was a blacksmith.

Have looked at the information I have on James. It does say he was born 1798  no place name. The Annan isfrom the death cert.

So, you could be right and perhaps he was not born or married in Annan.

No I haven't been able to find William or Christina deaths either. All I know is they were deceased before 1857 according to Jame's death details.

William was born 16 April 1772, Closehead, Annan  Christina Fraser ?  They were married in the Parish of Annan 10 September 1796.

Hi cupcake  :)

Was there any chance that William and Christian might have moved south?

I've found the death of a Christian Moffat, Mar q, 1846, Carlisle, vol 25 page 62.

It might be worth investigating  :-\
