McMurrays of Kirkcudbright
« on: Thursday 31 March 11 20:28 BST (UK) »
Dear Fellow Genealogists,

Is anyone out there researching the name McMurray in and around Kirkcudbright during the 18th century?

My wife's maiden name is McMurray and her paternal line before WW2 goes back to Canada, then eventually back across the Atlantic in the early 1840s to one William McMurray, born in Twynholm in 1818.  His father, William, was born in Kirkcudbright in 1796.  His father, also William, was born c. 1770.

Can anyone advise on how best to continue my search?  I did note a Mary McMurray, who died in early 1827 age 74 (i.e. born 1752/3), in the Kirkcudbright OPC records.  She might have been the great-grandmother of the William McMurray who emigrated to Canada.

Thanks & Best Wishes,

Geoff Burt
