Right......... got the death cert and it states Bronchitis due to Cerebral Deplegia.!!!

Have looked that up and it seems it is Cerebral Palsy.

When I checked through family 'stuff'  there is no mention and or no photos of her - then I realised that she died in 1950 and my immediate family and I were out of the country ..... so wouldnt have been kept up to date, with what was going on. 

So there we go, another little mystery solved.

In the 1950s, cerebral palsy sufferers were called Spastics and there was even a society called the Spastics Society - it's called Scope now.  Many sufferers were very badly affected due to birth injuries etc. and possibly not able to be looked after at home.  I wouldn't have thought many were actually mentally handicapped, but if they couldn't communicate it might have been thought they were mentally handicapped, rather than just very badly physically handicapped.
