Hi
1861
Union Work House Leicester
Robert b1822 Stocking Frame Knitter
Sarah b1827
George b1848
Ann b1853
Selina 1854
regards
westmorland

Following this, there is 1871 3251/75/4

George Stanley 20 yrs miner born Thringstone Leicestershire
He is a boarder in the home of Thomas and Sarah Janes. There is also a William Stanley who is a 'son-in-law' (stepson)

Where though does Grantham as birthplace fit?

I don't think this is the right one  :-\
1881 has a George Stanley born Narboro, Leicestershire with wife Eliza. He is a basket maker, the 1861 George is born Norbrough.

Welford Road burial

STANDLEY   GEORGE HENRY   1890   AUG   25   6MTHS   CHARLOTTE STREET   SAINT NICHOLAS

The census returns only have Stanley as a surname in Leicester as far as I can see

This is the family perhaps re Winstanley name

1841 Henry Winstanley born abt 1828 living Ely, Cambridgeshire

1851
1861 henry Stanley, born Ely with wife Mary and children in Grantham - no George
1871
1881 Henry and Mary Winstanley in Leicester

I can't see a marriage for Henry Winstanley/Stanley and Mary?
No George with them - wonder if he is Mary's before her marriage.

I think it seems likely that there is truth in the Cockayne story - especially with those births
